The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft considers the concept of Ambient Assisted Living as one of the major visions of the future. Therefore six Fraunhofer Institutes have founded the Fraunhofer Alliance "Ambient Assisted Living" that concentrates on the development of assistive environments to support persons with special needs in the areas of independent living and home care as well as care in a nursing home or the provision of mobile services. Another focus relies in the areas of rehabilitation and preventative for disabled persons. Two Institutes are participating: The Fraunhofer-Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD (Darmstadt) and the Fraunhofer-Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE (Kaiserslautern). Both institutes own an Ambient Assisted Living Lab that will be used for the set up of pilot sites in WP6. The institutes of the Fraunhofer Alliance Ambient Assisted Living are already engaged in national and international research projects that realize AAL technologies and scenarios.
